Henry Ford Providence Hospital Announces Dr. Ernesto Drelichman as President of the Medical Staff
Southfield and Novi, Michigan — Henry Ford Providence Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Ernesto Drelichman will serve as President of the Medical Staff for the Southfield and Novi campuses.
Dr. Drelichman is a highly respected surgeon, educator, and physician leader with a longstanding commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, and quality improvement. His appointment reflects a distinguished career marked by academic achievement, visionary leadership, and dedicated service to patients and the medical community.
Dr. Drelichman completed his general surgery residency at Providence–Providence Park Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, one of the nation’s premier surgical training programs. In 2004, he joined theUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he served as Associate Professor of Surgery,Chief of Surgical Endoscopy, and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. During his tenure at UAB, he also served on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Colorectal Cancer Screening Guideline Committee, contributing to the development of national standards for colorectal cancer screening, prevention, and early detection.
Throughout his career, Dr. Drelichman has received numerous prestigious honors, including theRosenthal Lifetime Achievement Award, recognition from the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, and theJohn H. Rominick Teaching Excellence in Family Practice Award, underscoring his lasting impact as both a clinician and educator.
Dr. Drelichman currently serves on the Henry Ford Health President’s Physician Officers Advisory Council and has held several influential leadership roles at both the system and statewide levels. These include service on the Ascension Health Governance Council and Chair of the Physician Excellence Committee. He was also the Chair of the Michigan Cancer Consortium, where he helped advance initiatives focused on improving cancer care quality, outcomes, and access across Michigan.
As President of the Medical Staff, Dr. Drelichman will work closely with hospital leadership and physicians across all specialties to advance patient-centered care, strengthen physician engagement, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
