ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by a provider.
- Administers medications and observes patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
- Performs routine laboratory tests and simple therapeutic services. May assist with performing other duties as assigned; scheduling tests and appointments, providing instruction for testing and procedures, calling in prescriptions and providing referrals.
- Educates patients/families about disease treatment plans including self care post discharge, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow up care.
- Complies with CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory agency standards. Participates in in-service programs as needed. Follows infection controls and safety policies.
- Responsible for review of lab results and appropriate flagging and follow up of abnormal results per office protocol.
- Responds, triages, and redirects telephone calls requiring attention.
- Takes patient calls requesting prescription refills, test results, and other miscellaneous inquiries.
- Obtains information and approvals from provider and relays to patient.
- Calls in prescription refills to pharmacy.
- Understand and applies insurance program requirements in providing patient care.
- May assist leader with leading staff.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Within scope of job, this position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma. Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing required or Graduate of an Accredited School of Practical Nursing required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OTHER: BLS Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) prior to start/hire date required. Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with the State of Michigan.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Three (3) months of nursing experience preferred. Physician practice experience preferred.
